Building a violence free future for children.

Our Programmes

We believe that positive youth action can empower communities to learn about and uphold the rights of women and girls and in turn dramatically reduce Gender-Based violence, FGM/C, child marriage, domestic violence and related consequences in one generation.

Community dialogues in Chiefs’ Barazas

This programme creates engagement with women, men and young people who attend chiefs’ meetings in discussions to understand human rights and uphold them with an aim of ending violation of women and girl’s rights.

Women Economic Empowerment - Endelea Initiative

Endelea is a Swahili word meaning “Continue”. This project targets girls and women who are between the age of 15 years to 35 years, those who are young mothers. Most of the women we work with do not have employable skills because they weren’t given the opportunity to complete school which made them even more vulnerable to abuse and violence from the people they depend on for provision such as husbands and parents.

We believe that women who are not economically empowered are not able to make informed decisions about their body, health and wellbeing. We engage with women in such circumstances to teach them skills to ensure they can have their own income.

Parents Engagement Sessions

In these sessions we engage with parents and teach them positive parenting methods and run anti Gender-Based Violence (GBV) workshops to end FGM/C and all other forms of GBV so that girls can grow up free from violence, having access to equal opportunities in the family.

School Mentorship - Hold My Hand Initiative

This program targets girls and boys in schools to help them understand different topics ranging from life skills, sexual reproductive health and rights, consent, importance of education among many other important skills. We help them to understand that they are able to protect themselves by seeking for help and reporting any harmful practices and violation of their rights.

Media

We always rely on media since we understand its power to drive social change, we use platforms such as TV, radio and Twitter to sensitise and campaign towards the abandonment of FGM/C. One of our recent successful Twitter campaign #StopKuriaMassCutting helped stop public parading of girls who have been cut. This public parading enticed others to go for the cut as they were looking forward to getting the gifts.

Art to end FGM

This programme teaches children to use their creativity through art. We create a platform where their talents are nurtured and through this, they get to spread the message of abandoning FGM/C. We have enabled children to explore their passion in modelling, singing, moulding, painting, drawing and many different mediums.

Enlighten Us Program

This is a program equips children with digital literacy and skills. They get practical experience with technology, preparing them for the next stage of life. This is due to the fact that we are in a digital era and we do not want to leave any child behind.

All of our activities are carried out using participatory approaches including open dialogue, and are facilitated by respected young people who are champions in their own communities.

  • I am so grateful for Safe Engage Foundation. They have supported me by taking my children to school because I was not able to. Through SEF programmes, the girls know and understand the effects of FGM/C. The girls know now that they can say no and look for safe places if forced by anyone.

  • I am one of the Endelea Initiative women; a programme that empowers women economically. I have learned many skills from making shaggy mat to flower vessels, pen holders and liquid soaps which gives me a chance to earn regular income.

  • Safe Engage Foundation linked me to a sponsor who paid for my secondary school fees. Prior to this support, I had dropped out of my secondary school education because of fees that I couldn’t afford but this support meant that I was able to successfully complete my education.

  • The help from Safe Engage Foundation came in a moment when I needed it the most; the Founder of SEF came here when my daughter was out of school because we did not have money for her school fees. I am so grateful for this support and I hope SEF can continue to support other parents and children in the same way.
